Whew! 50-Year-Old Family Man Facing Disaster Gets Instant $1 Million Lottery Win

Charles Sturtevant, seen here with his wife Sandra, took the lump sum of $650,000.

Faced with unpaid bills, a 50-year-old Haverhill, Massachusetts man was at his wit's end.

When Charles Sturtevant bought a lottery ticket on Friday, he had a leaking roof, a damaged car, piles of unpaid bills, and no money to pay off any of those expenses.

When he saw he’d won a $1 million prize, he immediately called his wife. Now, Sturtevant said, their family can finally breathe.

Sturtevant purchased his winning ticket at Hilldale Convenience, 66 Hilldale Avenue in Haverhill.

He is the fifth $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$4,000,000 Payout” instant game, which went on sale in June.

“It changed my life around. I’ve been having nothing but grief,” he said.

“Things finally turned around, and I’m planning on paying all the bills that have piled up since I bought this house.”

Sturtevant bought a ticket for the Massachusetts State Lottery’s $4,000,000 Payout instant game at Hilldale Convenience in Haverhill.
