Lotto boss resigns after winning numbers get mixed up during the draw
/Aleksandar Vulovic, the director of Serbia's national lottery, resigned following a significant error during a lottery drawing that undermined player confidence.
This mistake, which unfolded during a live broadcast, involved a mismatch between the numbers displayed on TV and the actual lottery balls drawn.
This incident happened in Serbia, a nation of 7.1 million people, in June 2015, and it was a considerable embarrassment.
However, it's important to note that this issue was confined to Serbia and did not impact the world's largest lottery games.
The error started when the TV screen indicated that the next number would be 21, but instead, ball number 27 was drawn.
Then around 30 seconds later, ball number 21 was drawn, yet the screen erroneously repeated the number 27.
In response to this blunder, Vulovic chose to step down from his position, citing a 'moral obligation,' though he maintained his innocence regarding any misconduct.
His resignation was a gesture of accountability for the mistake that significantly affected the lottery's credibility among its players.
