Is Disney Really Going To Make A Movie About Winning The Lottery?

Disney has announced a director to film a new movie about the lottery in a small town.

Will Gluck is coming aboard to direct Walt Disney Studios’ untitled lottery project, says the Hollywood Reporter.

The film centers on a consistently unlucky woman whose streak of bad continues when everyone in her small town wins a lottery except for her.

But it turns out to be a blessing in disguise that will ultimately allow her to save the town from ruin.

The project is based on a true story reported by the New York Times in 2012.

All but one of the residents of Sodeto - a small village in Spain with just 70 households - had their lottery numbers come up in the country’s big Christmas lottery, El Gordo.

Each ticket was worth $130,000 of a total $950 million prize. Some residents won millions.

The town had been struck by some very hard times in the economic downturn, and it came as a saving grace for them all at the time.

The film project was originally titled 'Lucky Guy' with a male as lead actor, but Gluck will oversee a rewrite by Martin Hynes to make the project female-centric.
