Here's What Canada's Latest Lotto Max Winner Will Spend His $50 Million On, And It Isn't What You'd Expect

The 48 year-old Lamont winner is a car nut who bought a Porsche with some of the money a day or two ago, but what he plans to do with the rest of his win will have you amazed.

In an interview with the Edmonton Sun, Rush said "To whom much is given, much is required."

These aren't the words you would expect to hear uttered from a man who just won $50 million, but Lamont's Randall Rush isn't your every day Lotto Max winner.

"This is a tremendous amount of money. I'm looking at this as a gift from God and it's a huge responsibility," said Rush, 48, who plans to use the majority of his winnings to start a trust fund with the interest going to benefit charities and humanitarian efforts worldwide.

"That's what I'm dedicating the rest of my life to."

"This kind of money can really go a long way in foreign countries. After I'm long gone, dead and buried, this foundation will still be going and it will keep on giving and giving."

Rush found out he won the $50 million jackpot when he went to the store to buy his cat "Conway Kitty" some cat food. He figured he'd check his January 16 Lotto Max tickets while he was there.

"I scanned a few and the very last one I checked was the winner," Rush recalls. "My eyes popped out of my head," he said. "I think I started hyperventilating. I was screaming. The girl at the till was screaming. It's a lot of money!"

On Friday, Rush spoke with media at the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission building in St. Albert (photo below), but had a hard time putting his latest winnings into words.

"Words can't describe it," said Rush. "We all have those water cooler talks where, 'well if you won the lottery what would you do?', but when it happens, it's just an avalanche of emotions. It's almost intoxicating. It's indescribable, actually."

Rush says he never played the lottery before in his life until about six years ago when he had a vision.

"For the last two years, I didn't think I was going to win, I knew I was going to win -- especially in the last year I really felt it coming."

Rush moved to Alberta in 1997 from Vancouver and "never regretted it," adding "there's a real buzz and an enthusiasm around Alberta that I just love -- it's a great place to be."

For the past six years, Rush has been working with Hertz Equipment Rental but says he quit his job after the win.

This Porsche 918 Spyder would suit a lottery winner.

"It was a very tough decision, about a nano-second," said Rush, a self-described "car-nut" who already used a portion of the money to buy himself a Porsche and is planning on also buying a '65 Chevrolet Corvette.

Without any family and relatives to speak of, Rush says he plans to use some of the funds to help out his closest friends. "I don't forget people who have done me kindness," said Rush.
