This $3M lottery winner's rags-to-riches story is like nothing you've read before
/We've all read about people who are down and out then suddenly win the lottery. But what you're about to read is so far-fetched at first, you'd scarcely believe it.
Could you imagine being a recovering alcoholic, homeless, in debt, with just a few coins in your pocket and no prospect of where your next meal is coming from, then doing this?...
Standing at a railway station lottery store, you reach into your pocket and bring out your last few coins. It is all you have left in the world. But you buy a ticket anyway.
If you were 55-year-old Hungarian László Andraschek, you knew you shouldn't be spending on anything but your next meal. But you went ahead.
"I had only picked six numbers and the female shop assistant reminded me that I needed to pick a seventh," he said.
"I told her to make it 24 – it doesn't matter, anyway."
But the last chance paid off for László - to the tune of $2.8 million (630m Hungarian forint), one of the biggest wins in his country.
The homeless millionaire went from facing another year of living on the streets to suddenly having the pick of accommodation anywhere in the world.
Understandably, because of his past he is cautious about spending his fortune. "I have become rich but I have not become a different person."
"I could buy a large-screen TV because I can afford it, but I won't buy three because I can afford it."
He has since bought flats for his three children, and a car that can only be driven by them - since he and his wife cannot drive. But his story has moved thousands of readers.
