Flappy Bird is gone. The addictive computer game that started life in May last year and rapidly captured everyone's hearts was removed by its owner on Sunday. It's just one of thousands of short-lived programs, so maybe it was expected.

Just like Flappy Birds, a trend takes off, goes viral, then - always - crashes and fades away.

Remember Myspace? The most visited social networking site in the world between 2005 and 2008. Now it only has 25 million unique visitors, while Facebook has over 1 billion visitors a month.
