TWO winners claim the $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot

The $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot prize was finally claimed by two people today, almost eight weeks after the historic July drawing. The two winners in Illinois will split roughly $217 million after taxes.

This morning the Illinois Lottery confirmed the news. NewsNation reported these are two people making good on their word because they agreed to split the jackpot if they won.

After federal and state taxes, each will receive $216.5 million.

Both winners are choosing to remain anonymous. They hit the lucky numbers at a Speedway gas station and convenience store In Des Plaines, Illinois, a suburb just outside of Chicago.

Unfortunately for them, once federal and state taxes are deducted, the winnings get knocked down quite a bit.

So both winners take home close to $217 million each.

While that seems a long way from The $1.34 billion dollar jackpot they started with, each winner will have enough money to buy several super yachts, or the most expensive mansion in Chicago four times over, as well as the top four most expensive diamonds ever sold at auction.

This was the nation's third-largest lottery prize ever. As for the Speedway gas station, they will also receive a half million dollars for selling the winning ticket.

And now the winners have the task of deciding how they're going to spend that money.
