Crashed $25,000 lottery winner got Pick 5 numbers from her license plate

Her car was wrecked, but then her life was turned around. A Maryland woman turned misfortune into money when she won $25,000 after using her license plate numbers to win a scratch-off prize.

The Howard County woman said she decided to try the new Pick 5 game on Valentine's Day.

She bought a 50-cent ticket using the numbers from the license plate of her car, which recently had to be towed from the scene of a minor crash.

The uninjured fender-bender said she was shocked when she checked the results the next day to see that she had won a $25,000 prize.

"I called my friend and said, 'Can you believe this?'" the winner remembered.

The lucky winner told the Maryland Lottery that she will be using her prize money to put down the deposit on a new convertible.

ABOUT PICK 5: Pick 5 is the Maryland Lottery's newest draw game, launched on February 7, 2022. The game joins the state's popular Pick games lineup of Pick 3 and 4. The 5-digit game offers players two draws every day, midday and evening, for cash prizes of $25 up to $50,000. Players have a range of playing amounts, plus 50cent or $1 tickets.
