I received a mysterious box of $20,000 scratch off tickets with no explanation, and this is what I did
/Imagine opening a FedEx box, expecting the usual supplies for your business, but instead finding a stash of lottery tickets worth a whopping $20,000!
That's exactly what happened to Danielle Alexandrov, who lives in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
She explains to local TV station WCVB.
One day at my office in East Falmouth, where I work as a recovery coach, a shipment arrived that was heavier than usual.
I started going through the boxes, everything was normal until I got to a package that was very heavy.
So, I opened it and found it filled with scratch tickets. I was so surprised, I thought it was a joke at first. But then, I saw the receipt showing its $20,000 value!
"Wow! Oh my gosh!" I remember exclaiming.
That’s when I realized this box wasn't meant for me. It was supposed to go to Kenyon's Market on East Falmouth Highway.
So, what did I do? I did what felt right. "We looked at the receipt and where it's supposed to go and went to return the box," I said.
Discussing the package with one of my employees, I remembered our values: "Do the next right thing."
I thought about what would happen if I kept them. Could I sleep at night? No, the right thing was to return it.
Kenyon's Market didn't comment when WCVB reached out to them about the mix-up.
You might think finding a box of potential money is a stroke of luck, but it's not.
The lottery tickets are actually worthless until they're activated by a retailer.
Christian Teja from the Massachusetts Lottery explained, "These tickets, until they're activated by a retail agent, there's really no value to them."
Even if you find a winning ticket among them, it can't be cashed unless it's activated.
FedEx didn't comment to WCVB on this odd delivery.
I'm glad I did the right thing. And who knows? Maybe I'll try my luck with the lottery soon. After all, good karma might just pay off!
