I played Lucky For Life once and now we're off to Disneyland with a $390,000 win
/A woman who won a lottery game on her very first time playing the game, said, “We’re off to Disneyland!”
Shayla Kauflin, a resident of Warren in Macomb County, turned her first-ever try at the Lucky For Life lottery ticket into a life-changing win.
Kauflin purchased her winning ticket online at Michigan Lottery and then had to decide on a whopping $25,000 a year for life, or a cash lump sum.
The Kauflin family had quite the surprise on Oct. 9 when Shayla's Lucky For Life lottery winning numbers read 09-13-17-30-38, won.
It perfectly matched the five white balls drawn for the Lucky For Life lottery.
“This ticket was the very first Lucky For Life ticket I have ever bought,” said Shayla. “When I was purchasing my Powerball tickets online, I saw the Lucky For Life game listed and thought: ‘Why not?’ and bought $10 worth of tickets.
But the real shock came the following day.
“I logged in to my Lottery account the next day to see if I’d won anything, and when I saw $390,000 pending, I started screaming, crying, and freaking out!”
“I called my husband to tell him how much I’d won, and he was concerned at first because he thought something was wrong.
“Winning is indescribable! It feels like the weight of the world has been taken off my shoulders. It may not be enough money to change the world, but it’s enough money to change my world!”
After claiming her prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters, 39-year-old Kauflin had an important decision to make: whether to take the $25,000 every year for 20 years (or more) or to opt for a one-time payment.
Shayla chose the lump sum, walking away with $390,000 in her pocket.
And what does one do with such a windfall? For Shayla Kauflin, a trip to Disneyland with the family is at the top of her list, with plans to invest the rest.
The Lucky For Life game, which can be played for just $2, offers numerous prizes, with the jackpot being $1,000 a day for the lifetime of the winner.
The game rules are straightforward: match all five winning numbers from a possible 48 and one Lucky Ball out of a possible 18 to win the jackpot.
If the Lucky Ball doesn't match but the five numbers do, like in Shayla's case, the reward is $25,000 a year for life.
The lottery draws are held daily at 10:38 p.m., and tickets can be bought both from local retailers or online at MichiganLottery.com.
