In one of the most remarkable acts of kindness from a hospital, staff rallied round patient Earl Livington when they discovered he had broken his hip while walking to buy a Mega Millions ticket.

Livingston's niece, Bobbie Mickle, says Livingston told staff he was disappointed about not getting a ticket. Word went round the ward at the Jefferson Stratford Hospital, and staff decided to invite him to join their lottery pool, reported the Daily Mail.

The winning ticket. Livingston was on his way to buy a ticket when he fell and broke his hip.

His lucky ‘break’ came when the pool won a $1 million prize and the New Jersey man’s share with the 141 staffers was $4,800 after federal and local taxes.

Livingston will need a hip replacement, but he says he's thankful.

“I want to thank everybody,” Livingston said to WCAU-TV

“I appreciate very much and God bless you and have a happy, happy long life!”
