Why 60-Year-Old $1 Million Lottery Winner Is Keeping His Win A Secret From His Wife
/The winning ticket came from the L&F Mini Mart at 9801 Linwood Street in Detroit.
There are many reasons why a lottery winner would keep a jackpot win a secret.
But this jackpot winner from Detroit is using the best reason of all to keep it a surprise from his wife.
Michael Williams says he promised his wife "the best Christmas of her life," but didn't tell her it's because he won $1 million playing the Michigan Lottery's Mega Millions game.
THE TICKET: Williams matched the five white balls drawn in the Friday night, December 11, 2015 drawing.
"When I saw I had matched five numbers I screamed "Oh my God!" said the winner.
Williams said he plans to buy his wife a house for Christmas and save the rest for retirement -- but he didn’t tell his wife for days.
“I dropped little hints all weekend,” Williams said. He added: “I’ve been playing the Lottery for a long, long time and to finally win is just incredible.”
Williams kept the news from his wife saying he wanted to surprise her with the check when he picked it up from lottery officials on Monday, December 14.
