In the past 18 years the UK National Lottery has created over 3000 millionaires. So what did they spend their £2.8 million (average each winner) on? This infograph from The Guardian newspaper tells the story.
The big surprise - the majority of the winners (59%) carried on working. Read More
Retired billionaire Tom Crist won $40 million in the Canada Lotto Max.
BACK a little while we reported how a billionaire (above) won a $40 million lottery jackpot, and gave it all away.
But it's not only the super rich who have given the game a passing glance.
These following celebrities - and you'll recognise more than a few familiar faces - all confess to have played the lottery at some time.
Lottery winner Andrew Garth wondered how to spend his Euromillions £1 Million (about US$1.6 million) jackpot. The Middlesbrough, UK resident decided to have his caricature drawn by local artist Mick Hollinsworth, and posed with his check (that's a cheque in British terms).
We're not sure why. Good likeness though.

A British couple unknowingly bought duplicate tickets for the same UK National Lottery draw, and won $150,000 each.
John picked up his ticket at a newsagents close to their home, not knowing that his wife Karen had also bought one from the local post office on the same day.
While this is a great stroke of luck for these winners, buying double tickets on purpose is not practical. It wastes money, and wastes the opportunity to spread your number selection over a wide range.
You need this spread to increase your winning odds.
Moral of the story: Celebrate this win with them, but don't plan to follow this accidental plan yourself!
