In the quaint town of Gloucester, Virginia, a local woman's life changed not once, but twice, thanks to the Virginia Lottery's online game, Safari Quest.
Remarkably, she was on her own ‘safari,’ sitting at a campfire when she found out she had won almost $1 million in the two games.
Jennifer Minton hit a $50,000 jackpot the week before and thought that was as good as it gets.
"A $50,000 lottery win was already exciting," she told lottery officials.
But the excitement didn't end there.
In a stroke of unbelievable luck, she played the same game one week later and landed the jaw-dropping $912,936 prize.
The second win was so unexpected that when she saw the jackpot reset, she thought, "Dang, somebody just hit. They are so lucky!"
To her amazement, she was that "somebody."
Minton's good fortune came while she was simply sitting by a campfire.
She had to take a closer look at her computer screen to realize she had actually won the grand prize.
Her reaction was one of sheer disbelief. "I’m in shock! I’m in disbelief!" she told Virginia officials while claiming her winnings.
Minton's good luck is a boon not just for her but also for Gloucester County's education system.
In the last fiscal year, the county, which lies about 60 miles east of Richmond, received over $2.7 million from lottery funds to support K-12 education.
