Woman threw $12 million lottery ticket in the trash

77-year-old Janet Valenti from New York shared her story of almost winning a massive $12 million Lotto jackpot over 30 years ago.

Valenti, who missed out on the largest unclaimed prize in New York's Lotto history, spoke to New York Lottery officials about the incident that dates back to July 1991.

Janet bought a Lotto ticket for just $1 at J.N.J. Delicatessen in Graniteville, Staten Island. The ticket, with the winning numbers 2, 3, 6, 43, 46, and 52, could have changed her life.

At that time, she was getting ready for a weekend trip with her two teenagers, Kevin and Jennifer.

However, in a mix-up, Janet accidentally threw the ticket in the trash.

She thought all the tickets on her end table had been checked and were losers.

It was only after her trip, when a friend excitedly mentioned, "Someone from Staten Island won the $12 million Lotto prize!" that Janet realized her mistake.

Seeing the winning numbers in the newspaper, Janet recognized them as hers, saying, "Those are my numbers.”

This revelation came as a shock, as she had unknowingly discarded the winning ticket, missing out on the fortune…
