Man's surgery recovery turns lucky with 4 get-well million-dollar lottery flukes
You couldn’t make this up. Alexander McLeish of Attleborough received a $1 million lottery prize and got four amazing coincidences along with it.
Last year he was given a get-well card from his friend after his open heart surgery, with three instant tickets enclosed.
Among them included the eventual big winner ticket from the $5,000,000 100X Cashword instant ticket game.
McLeish said later to reporters that he had a ‘good feeling’ about one of the cards immediately.
His hunch paid off–it was indeed a win.
Lottery officials happily captioned the November 26 notice, “HEART-felt Win.”
Alexander’s ticket was bought from the Quickeez Beer, Wine and Convenience Store located at 60 North Main St. in Carver.
And the store received a $10,000 bonus for the sale of this ticket.
But there’s more to this story…
The first coincidence was that he wore a closely matching shirt color to the winning ticket color when he got his check at the Massachusetts Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.
Not exciting enough? It gets better.
The second stroke of luck was that his Initials A W M appeared when he scratched the ‘Your Letters’ section.
The third fluke was that the word HEART appeared on the bottom row of the ticket after he scratched it.
And there’s one more… McLeish said he won a $1,000 prize several years ago on a ticket he received from the same friend as a birthday gift.
This time the check was considerably more as Alexander chose to take a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.
Well, that’s what friends are for!
