Woman's kindness repaid with scratcher win of $150,000 as a rainbow pot of lottery gold
THEY say good things happen to good people. For Briana Mills of Petersburg, this couldn't be truer.
While shopping at a 7-Eleven store in Chester, she helped a customer struggling to pay for groceries.
Little did she know, her kindness would soon be rewarded in an unexpected way.
As she was leaving the 7-Eleven at 1924 Walnut Drive, Briana decided to try her luck with a Virginia Lottery scratcher game.
The "Strike It Rich" ticket she bought turned out to be a $150,000 pot of gold winner.
This stroke of luck happened just as she saw a rainbow and captured a photo of her winning ticket with it in the background.
The "Strike It Rich" game offers prizes from $5 to $150,000 and is one of many scratcher games from the Virginia Lottery.
Ms. Mills claimed the second top prize of the game, leaving one more big prize still out there.
The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,224,000, and for any prize, it's 1 in 4.09.
Virginia Lottery's profits support K-12 education in the state. Petersburg, where Ms. Mills lives, received over $7.1 million for education last year.
In the 2023 fiscal year, the Lottery raised more than $867 million, contributing about 10 percent of Virginia’s K-12 school budget.
