A guitar shop owner’s good deed paid off with a big win.
When Eric Cochrane of Methuen won a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$10,000,000 Winter Riches” instant ticket game, he followed up on a promise.
Cochrane split his win with his friend, John Galvin. It started when Eric brought his son’s guitar to Galvin’s guitar store for repair.

John did not charge Eric for the repair as he was aware that his son had a health issue earlier in the week, Cochrane insisted that Galvin accept at least $40.
When Galvin refused, Cochrane decided that he would purchase two $20 instant tickets and told his friend, “If I win $1 million, we are splitting it.”
An hour later, the two were on their way to the Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters.
Eric claimed the prize and chose the cash option, receiving a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.
