As you pay your $2 for a weekly lottery ticket, have a thought for some big players out there.

Jose Salmon was so sure that he was going to win the Florida Lottery that he spent an amazing $600,000 over 9 years in a bid to get the jackpot. That’s $600 a day.

Would you spend $600 a DAY in order to win the lottery?

That's what Joe had to decide when he started back in 1998, not knowing if he would win. It was a big risk and required a lot of self-belief and persistence.

But it paid off. He was one of four winners sharing a $52 million jackpot in the Aug. 29, 2007 draw. He chose a lump sum payment, and after tax he took home $5.3 million.

Was it worth it? Jose said yes, but he also said he would not play again. So it seems he had achieved his goal.

OUR TAKE: While paying $600,000 to get back $5.3 million seems an average return, remember that buying tickets over time is a drip-feed process.

If you're able to afford the daily or weekly outgoings, then it becomes a painless process.
