With his half of a North Carolina Lottery prize, a Lexington car painter plans to give his wife a dream car.
The Corvette convertible, worth around $60,000, will still leave winner Michael Scarlett with the bulk of his $377,241 win - which reduces to $261,239 after state and federal taxes were withheld.
Scarlett learned of his big win when he checked his numbers on the lottery’s website on Friday morning. He paints cars for Richard Childress Racing.
The winning ticket was bought at the Welcome Exxon 1-Stop on Old U.S. 52 in Welcome.
“I still didn’t believe it so I took the ticket back to where I bought it,” Scarlett said. “The clerk scanned it and then started getting excited. She told me I had won big and that I needed to sign the ticket. It still hasn’t hit me, really.”

“I’m going to keep working, but this win will help us a lot,” Scarlett said as he collected his winnings. “This feels wonderful.”
