It pays to be a regular. These New Jersey store owners discovered that a $2 million dollar scratch off ticket registered in the store's computer. But no-one had claimed the prize.

Then Yogi remembered one of his regular customers frequently played the type of game the winning ticket was from. His wife told him the winner had come in earlier in the day and collected a number of small winnings from the game.

Soon enough, they tracked the winner down who ended up collecting $1.4 million.

And for their efforts the owners of Leprechaun News in Rutherford were honored by Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) and Rutherford Councilwoman Stephanie McGowan on Friday.

Assemblyman Gary Schaer handed the couple a joint legislative resolution for "going above and beyond to serve their patrons with honesty and integrity."

Schaer said he admired Yogi Patel's integrity, as well as his humbleness in not wanting credit for his honesty.

"But when you give to someone, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing," said Yogi Patel.

“I was happy to be honored by the Assemblyman, but I was happier when I was able to give the ticket back,” Patel said.
